Research topics
The Laboratory of Superconductors and Hydrogen Technologies (NL-6) is part of the Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The laboratory conducts advanced research in the field of high-temperature superconductivity, with particular emphasis on iron-based superconductors, and MgB₂ materials.
Our work combines high-pressure techniques with conventional synthesis and processing methods to design, fabricate, and optimize superconducting materials. Through comprehensive structural, electrical, magnetic, and spectroscopic studies, we aim to understand fundamental physical mechanisms and improve material performance for practical applications.
The laboratory research focuses also on hydrogen storage technologies in high-pressure gas tanks. Their main activities include the development of double-wall type IV tanks – lightweight composite tanks made of carbon or glass fibers for high-pressure hydrogen storage and more recently, also innovative fully metallic type I (all-metal) gas storage tanks. We participated in building a complete Hydrogen Energy Station at Unipress (Celestynów Innovation Park), capable of storing energy from a photovoltaic farm in the form of compressed hydrogen produced by electrolyzers. An important aspect of our activity is the development of new hydrogen compressors for high-volume industrial applications, designing and building complete hydrogen systems, including production, compression, and storage
The overall goal of the laboratory is to advance research on high-temperature superconducting materials and technologies and to develop safe, efficient, and innovative technologies that enable complete hydrogen energy systems.
