Today we had a pleasure to meet third-year students from XXIV Cyprian K. Norwid High School in Warsaw. During the visit, they had the opportunity to learn what everyday research work looks like and what skills are required to pursue a career in science.
The session included a discussion on the differences between materials such as diamond, copper, and glass, as well as the challenges involved in producing gallium nitride (GaN) and optoelectronic devices. Dr. Eng. Marta Sawicka presented also some selected research projects carried out at the institute, including work on hydrogen storage and nanomaterials for medical applications supporting bone regeneration.
The students enjoyed the laboratory tours the most. They explored molecular beam epitaxy equipment presented by Dr. Eng. Mateusz Hajdel and MSc. Sooraj Nhaloor, visited the electron microscopy laboratory led by Dr. Hab. Eng. Julita Smalc-Koziorowska, Professor at IHPP PAS, and visited the optical laboratory demonstration by Dr. Szymon Grzanka, showcasing efficient visible light generation in GaN-based structures in the experiments of electroluminescence and laser operation.
Thank you for this inspiring visit!
