Instytut Wysokich Ciśnień PAN dołączył do Konsorcjum ELI-Polska

On Friday, July 18, 2026, in response to our Institute's application, the Council of the ELI-Poland National Research Consortium unanimously decided to admit the Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IHPP PAS) as a member. 

We have thus joined the ranks of leading Polish scientific institutions co-creating this strategic initiative, which is coordinated by the Military University of Technology. This is an important step forward in expanding scientific cooperation and securing access to unique research infrastructure – a European project dedicated to building the world's most powerful laser systems.

The ELI-Poland Consortium serves as the national partner for the European research infrastructure ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure), which comprises three facilities: ELI Beamlines in the Czech Republic, ELI ALPS in Hungary, and ELI-NP in Romania.

Together, the three ELI centers provide access to:

• 14 laser systems along with their integrated instruments
• 9 independent instruments and laboratories

Membership in the Consortium will provide our scientists with easier access to unique radiation sources, ultrafast pulse laser systems, and advanced diagnostic techniques. Combining these capabilities with our expertise in high-pressure physics and materials engineering opens up opportunities for groundbreaking research that cannot be conducted at any other facility in Poland. IHPP PAS has already been actively collaborating with ELI for several years, particularly in the field of terahertz technologies.

Dr. Marcin Białek represents the Institute of High Pressure Physics in the Consortium and will support our staff in project funding applications for the ELI infrastructure.
