Bóg, Nauka, Cywilizacja – wykład popularyzujący wiedzę o fizyce w kontekście historii nauki i cywilizacji

The author refers to the widely discussed claims made by Stephen Hawking in The Grand Design, in which the physicist argues that the existence of the laws of physics—particularly gravity—is sufficient to explain the origin of the Universe, without the need to invoke God in a religious sense. These considerations serve as a starting point for a broader reflection on the limits of scientific knowledge, the status of the laws of nature, and the relationship between science, philosophy, and faith. The author emphasises that while science effectively describes the evolution of matter and cosmic structures, it does not answer questions about the origin of the laws of physics themselves or the meaning of their existence.

The second part of the text offers a synthetic reflection on the role of science in the development of civilisation—from the earliest astronomical observations, through the revolutions of Newton and Maxwell, as well as quantum mechanics and relativity, to contemporary information technologies, biotechnology, and nanotechnology. The author points out that science has not only enabled the emergence of modern civilisation but also poses new ethical and epistemological challenges, particularly in the context of research on consciousness, artificial intelligence, and the relationship between humans and nature.
