Prof. Hiroshi Amano, 2014 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics, our distinguished Colleague and Friend has visited Poland on June 21-23
Prof. Hiroshi Amano arrived to Poland on June 21 to open the 44th Jaszowiec Conference on Semiconductor Physics in Wisła. The Conference is co-organized by Unipress and this year it was chaired by Prof. Staszek Krukowski.
Due to very busy schedule, Prof. Amano could stay with us only one full day so we tried to make this day as nice and interesting as possible.
After the Opening Plenary Session in Wisła, where we enjoyed the excellent lecture on Prof. Amano’s way to the Nobel Prize in physics, we moved to Kraków.
On the way we had a nice lunch in one of the famous Polish gas stations :)
The program of the visit in Kraków was coordinated by our colleague Prof. Staszek Filipek who beside of physical chemistry, is a real expert in Japanese culture and language.
We started from meeting with HM Rector of Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak and his co-workers.
Prof. Amano was told about magnificent history and present activity of UJ.
The historical aspects were continued during exciting tour in Collegium Maius guided in an outstanding way. After this extremely interesting meeting with the oldest Polish University, we moved by a traditional horse-drawn carriage allowing full admiration of the beautiful Market Square, to the Manggha Museum
In the Museum Prof. Amano had a very nice welcome with participation of Mr Andrzej Wajda (founder of the Museum). Then he visited some fascinating galleries of Japanese art collected in Manggha. During his stay in Manggha, our Guest gave an interview to Rzeczpospolita to Ms Aleksandra Biały.
For a culmination of this busy day in Poland, Prof. Amano and his colleagues from Unipress were invited by HE Ambassador of Japan and his wife for dinner in traditional Polish restaurant “Pod Aniołami”.
Next morning, we i.e. Michał and me, accompanied Hiroshi Amano to the Balice airport. We will meet him this year in Hamamatsu for ISGN-6.
It was unforgettable day!
