Gala of the XIII edition of the LIDER Program
On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, during the Gala of the XIII edition of the LIDER Program, dr inż. Anna Kafar from our Institute, among other young scientists received the diploma and symbolic check from Dr. Jacek Orzeł, p.o. director of the National Center for Research and Development (NCBR) and Ewelina Dadasiewicz, Director of Communication and Strategic Marketing.
The video from the Gala was published today on the NCBR YouTube channel.
Dr. inż. Anna Kafar will lead the project "Photonic Integrated Circuit Based Single-Output Multi-Wavelengh (In,Al)GaN Monolythic Laser System" with the acronym PICkGaN.
The call for the next edition - XIV LIDER Program is now open! Don't hesitate to apply!
In this project, we propose a new method of ultrafast data transmission through the use of photonic integrated circuits based on AlInGaN nitride semiconductors. We propose a construction of a laser light source (photonic integrated circuit) with many discretely distributed wavelengths, which will allow the use of wavelength-division multiplexing in VLC and LI-FI in order to increase the data transfer speed. Our solution is based on the idea of monolithic, low optical loss GaN / InGaN / AlGaN waveguides, which can be produced by the same epitaxy process as the lasers, on the same GaN substrate. Such a waveguide can be made in the form of light combiner to sum the emission of multiple lasers. The technology of modifying the local value of misorientation will also be used to control the emission wavelength of laser diodes within one chip, leading to the multi-wavelength emission of our light source.
