About MgB2
Since discovery of its superconducting properties in 2001, MgB2 became one of the most promising materials for preparation of superconducting wires. Apart from its high critical properties, MgB2 has such advantages as a simple chemical composition of two ingredients, physical form of powder that allows easy shaping of the material and low prices for boron and magnesium.
Powder in Tube - PIT
Wire drawing
Wires are prepared by placing MgB2 powder (ex situ) or unreacted Mg+2B powders (in-situ) in metal alloy (sheath)
Wire drawing
Such prepared raw wires are drawn to desired diameters (ca 1-1.2mm) with reduction step of about 5%.
