50 years have passed! Summary of the UNIPRESS contribution to semiconductor physics
General information - News |
In 2022 the Institute of High Pressure Physics PAS (IHPP PAS), also known as UNIPRESS, celebrated its 50th anniversary. The contribution of UNIPRESS scientists to semiconductor physics and technology has been summarized by prof. Izabella Grzegory in the invited talk on „Jaszowiec 2022” conference - 50th International School & Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors.
The most important subjects covered in her talk given at „Jaszowiec 2022” have been summarized in a paper published recently in Acta Physica Polonica A. Prof. Grzegory writes about the beginnings of pressure studies of narrow band-gap semiconductors, which today are extremely interesting due to their topological properties. She also discusses the fundamental aspects of gallium nitride (GaN) crystallization that is now the foundation of advanced physics and technology of optoelectronic devices currently being developed and manufactured in laboratories of the Institute.

Prof. Grzegory notes that „UNIPRESS, since its pre-history until today, has contributed to semiconductor physics in a visible way due to clever and devoted people and the original own scientific equipment, enabling studies of semiconductors under pressure.”
